INDIAN ARMY GETS NEW SUV-TATA SAFARI STORME TO REPLACE MARUTI GYPSY AS INDIAN ARMY'S OFFICIAL VEHICLE

After army finally decided to change their iconic vehicle Maruti Gypsy with new SUV vehicles a lot of companies including Tata & Mahindra fielded their respective SUV in the bid to be the next vehicle of Indian army.

Mahindra fielded it's iconic Scorpio and Tata it's new Safari STORME and testing and trials of the vehicles started in 2013.

While it has not been announced officially but sources have told that Army is going ahead with Tata Safari STORME.

Both locally developed SUVs passed rigorous technical trials by the army, which tested the vehicles in all conditions – from high-altitude, snow-bound regions to deserts and any landscape which army has to deal with during operations.

While Tata provided a better deal than Mahindra and this is considered the reason why Tata won the contract.

The army has over 30,000 Maruti Gypsy vehicles in service and will progressively replace them in next few years.

Army selected only one of the two because army prefers having uniform vehicle throughout the nation because of ease of maintenance and logistic ease.

The need was felt for a new SUV with additional safety features and more power that runs on diesel, a fuel that’s readily available, given its large fleet of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles. Before this army had to store petrol separately for the fleet of it's gypsys which was bit inconvenient and considering the mileage Gypsy gave a lot of petrol was needed separately.

According to sources army has placed the initial order for about 3200 Safari STORME which will increase slowly and may even cross 40,000 in coming time.

ONCE THIS DEAL IS SIGNED THIS WILL BE ANOTHER MAJOR ORDER WON BY TATA IN DEFENCE.

RECENTLY TOO TATA SED HAS WON A CONTRACT TO MANUFACTURE PINAKA LAUNCHERS AND CONTROL STATION AND BEFORE THAT ANOTHER ONE FOR PROVIDING HIGH MOBILITY 6×6 PLATFORMS TO ARMY.

THIS DEAL IS NOT YET MADE OFFICIAL AND IS NOT SIGNED TILL NOW.
