INDIGENOUS ASTRA BVR MISSILE SET FOR COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION

Well a few days ago I wrote about the Indigenous ASTRA BVR (beyond visual range) missile which is developed by DRDO in my blog Astra BVR missile First Indian BVR  (link to the post) and i explained the capabilities and the advantages of this homegrown BVR missile and as to how it will help Indian Airforce.

Well earlier there were speculations that the homegrown BVR would come into production by Feb-march 2017 but according to the latest updates the homegrown bvr missile is set for commercial production in the coming month and that by the end of 2016 the IAF would get this gift from DRDO.

SU 30 MKI FIRING ASTRA

Indian Air Force Sukhoi 30 MKI jets had fired the Astra during the 'Iron Fist' fire-power demonstration in the deserts of Rajasthan this year in March. India is planning to integrate the Astra missiles on its next generation Tejas light combat aircraft & most probably will also do same for other aircrafts in IAF inventory.
 
 
As i have already told in previous post about capabilities of ASTRA (link above and highlighted) I would not discuss them here.

 This indigenous bvr will not only provide Indian Airforce with more teeth but will also reduce it's dependence on other nations for weapons as till now India had to purchase expensive BVR missiles from other nations which cost a lot more than what Astra will. 
Also DRDO is working on ASTRA MK 2 which will have extended range.

I am glad that now India is amongst the nations who is capable of making BVR and hope that we will get better and better with times and develop more missiles which will help our armed forces in securing our nation.
