ARJUN MK2 TO MISS 2016 INDUCTION DATE?

India's ARJUN MK II which was supposed to be inducted in 2016 now may miss the deadline. The funny part is It's not the tank which has issues, but the Israeli based LAHAT missiles.

A key source in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said, the Israelis who customised the LAHAT for firing from the 120 mm main gun of the Mark II variant, has gone back to the drawing boards for correcting the error.

This will delay the induction of tank a bit according to DRDO who has asked army to let them start the production of the platform (i.e the tank) as the tank has no issues and that LAHAT can be fused with the tank as soon as Israelis sort out the problem with the missile.

DRDO claims that army is still reluctant and is asking for the problem to be sorted first.

LAHAT is a 3rd generation anti tank missile which can be fired from both ground and air (using helicopters), the anti-tank can be independently targeted or targeted through laser designation which means an alternative platform can illuminate the target with the anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) homing in on the laser spot.
